We’ve seen Manea’s name pop up alongside some big barrels recently, so we thought it’s a good time to see what he is all about…

Favourite Wave: This one is a hard one … I’d say Fronton for its ramps or my home spot Sapinus (pictured below) because it has it all , from lefts to rights to heavy slabs and huge ramps. The wave works on pretty much any kind of swell direction and wind direction. When the swell gets over 10ft , the wave to me turns into an enhanced version of Teahupo’o , but instead of a huge right hander waiting for you at the exit of the barrel there’s a huge ramp waiting for you !
Waves you want to surf but haven’t: Definitely The Right or Shipsterns , I’m fascinated by big waves and those spots look totally insane , the weather , the scenery , all of this sounds so tropical to me, haha . I’m definitely planning on ticking one of those two off my bucket list in the upcoming two years.
Plans for the rest of this year: I have a few trips planned for the rest of this year , I will be following the Apb tour (Teahupo’o ,The Chilean leg , Nazare and Fronton). I will also do a trip to the Cook Islands in May-June when the conditions will be best. This island has perfect and uncrowded waves, it’s the perfect training ground, plus the inhabitants are amazing people !
What do you do if you are not bodyboarding ? Hmmmm… When I’m not in the water , I would either be at the University studying (my goal is to get my license in Eco management) or working in my family’s plantation in Vairao (10 mins from Teahupo’o). I also enjoy doing Calisthenics , swimming ,free diving and yoga to stay in shape for the bigger days ..
